THE NIGHT OF THE BEAUTIFUL GARDENS
..and Miguelita's is one of them..
Culmination of a whole summer's work..
November 2, Thursday is one of the most awaited day in our calendar. That was the day when at 7:30 pm, all winners of the annual Toronto Garden contest gathered together in the Old Mill Inn to see and meet the winners of the contest which took place the past summer.
As we filed inside, we saw a slide show of the diffrent winners: first, second and third. We belong to Ward 2. And we met another winner who happened to be a regular worshipper at the 10:00 mass at St. John the Evangelist where I play regularly. She was the first prize winner for Ward 11.She resides at
137 King St.
There were more than 300 gardens inspected by the volunteer judges. A handful of winners came up.
At the back of the hall was a display of the shots winning gardens: 2 shots per garden and blown up into 8.5 by 11...Indeed it was so exciting to see Miguelita's MAGNUM OPUS being given a first prize ribbon logo alongside with the other winners.. And their houses were big compared to ours which is just big enough for two, now that our kids are gone..
At 7:30 pm, the speaker commenced the program. Miguelita's award ( 2 big photos of her garden that came in a black folder was awarded by an incumbent Councilor of Toronto Rob Ford. The movie screen at the front of the hall showed the 2 shots of 19 Dixon Rd. taken by the judges. We rode with the winner of Ward 11 on our way home since they were passing our way..
Everything was over at 9:30. We met another friend who has the same hobby as we do: tending plants and talking with them. It was a nice evening, indeed.
For the next few days, we will be waiting for a heavy stone marker that says "First prize Winner: Toronto Garden contest, 2006 "
This will stay in our front yard for years and years to come...
It was a GREAT SUMMER, INDEED!!
If you received the top prize, wouldn't you sport a smile like those ones?
