"Kudos to Ricky for a very poignant and inspiring story. Those ten months must really be nigthmarish... But believe me, you are still lucky. what if i tell you that i have lived with this face for all of my life. ha ha ha...
Anyways, I just learned that Ricky is actually a lady. I had always sensed it somehow in her previous entries but i have always associated that name to the masculine specie. it doesnt matter, actually.
thanks for sharing."

Talking about borrowed time, I think I am on my "second life". If I were a cat, I would still have 8 lives to spare.
Anyways, when I was in high school, I had this pain in my side and a fever. I thought it was just the food I ate. But the next day, it worsened and I was brought that afternoon to a hospital in Dagupan. My stomach pain was diagnosed by my family doctor as acute appendecitis. " No problem, just a 15 minute operation," he said. So I thought.
Those surgeons in Dagupan gave me a local which maybe would last 15 minutes. But the operation dragged beyond 15 minutes and I believed they never gave me any more anaesthesia. I screamed and hollered at the pain while they poked around my innards looking for something.
The operation was finished afterwards, they sewed me up and brought me to my room, barely conscious.
Then I had fever the next day. Each time I opened my eyes, everything looks green. I could not eat, but I puked greenish stuff every now and then. Worst was when a couple of stomach parasites that looked like worms came out through my mouth. I knew then I was about to die. Those two critters are the rats that are scrambling to get off the sinking ship! The doctor do not seem to do anything to alleviate what I was feeling!
My grandmother from Laoac visited me that night. She did some prayers, incantations, etc. Have you heard of the practice by old folks called ALAW?. That's what she did. She walked around the corridors calling for my "soul" to join my body again. Scary stuff, eh? The hospital allowed ( forgive the pun ) her to do her thing.
But you know what, the next day I felt better. The green tint in my vision was gone, I was able to sleep and my appetite came back.
I was discharged a week later. Our house, everything around never looked so good on my first moments back in my old place.
There was still a bit of pain in my left side. And I could barely walk. From my window, I could hear the sound of the town fiesta from the town plaza.
And you know what? I sneaked down, ever slowly walked to the edge of the plaza just to see the ferris wheels and check the carnival style side shows. Then someone tapped my shoulder. It was our servant, sent by my Mom, asking me to return back to the house with him!---#
